VALPARAISO RECONSTRUCTION

In 2014, the city of Valparaiso suffered one of the most devastating fires in the history of the city, generating severe damages to families and the public infrastructure.

CHL Chile participated in 2 important instances: offering technical consultancy to help 50 families that lost their houses or resulted severely damaged and actively participating in the reconstruction of 16 units that received a public subsidy from the central government.

The reconstruction project started in 2015, and was completely ended by 2018, with the delivery of the last unit in Merced hill.

Immediately after the Mega Fire of April 2014 that destroyed more than 2400 homes, CHL began working with groups of victims. The first option, to form cooperatives per block, did not have the expected response, so it was opened to receive particular demands. In total, 14 units were contracted on two hills, all individual houses, with an appropriate design for each victim, maintaining an architectural and constructive quality.

To date, 6 units have been delivered, the rest are still under construction.

With this initiative, CHLA contributes to 6% of all buildings reconstructed by companies, while most of the damaged buildings are being rebuilt by their own inhabitants.
